$1 Million Lottery Cashier's Mistake
$1 Million Lottery Cashier's Mistake, This is what you call a happy accident. Pamela Ivey of Georgetown, Ky., planned to pay $5 for her Mega Millions lottery ticket. The clerk who sold her the ticket, however, added the prize multiplier feature and asked her for $10, WLKY-TV reported.
"I glanced at her name tag and it said Susan, and I thought, 'Oh Susan, don't do that to me,'" Ivey said, according to WLWT.
Susan had done Ivey, 42, a favor. When the drawing took place, Ivey's numbers came up. With the multiplier feature, she won $1 million rather than the $250,000 she would have won without it."I dropped to my knees and praised God," Ivey said, according to the Kentucky Lottery website.
Now she's walking away with $690,000 after taxes. She plans to put some of the money toward her son's college education and to make a donation to her church.
"This was perfect timing," Ivey said, according to the Kentucky Lottery website.
The Apple Market where she bought the ticket is getting a bonus as well. The store will receive $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
The store is in a lucky area. In December 2009, the ProTravel Marathon across the street sold a $3 Powerball ticket to Rob Anderson, also of Georgetown. The ticket won a $128.6 million jackpot.
